Depending on the size of your hard drive and the speed on your internet connection it’s not usual for this to take 24 hours or more. Typically this initial upload takes a long time. In this way you end with a complete copy – or mirror image – of your hard drive. Then, the software gets to work, creating a copy of all the files you’ve selected, carefully encrypting them for security and then sending the copy to your cloud backup account. Some backup providers will also let you back up your operating system and your program files too. Typically people opt to back up all their documents – photos, videos, Word documents and so on.
With this software you can select which files/folders you’d like to back up and how often you’d like to do this. Upon selecting a cloud backup provider you download their software onto your computer which not only acts as a “go-between” – allowing your computer to connect to and interact with your cloud storage account – but also controls what data is backed up and when. Cloud storage services work rather like an extra hard drive that you access via the internet.
